[thomasyung.com:81] It seems that podcasting is the hot newthing around the Internet these days. I had never really paid much attentionto podcasting until it became part of iTunes.

[Greg Yardleys Internet Blog] MP3 poor format for podcast monetization: As an observer, I can’t help but wonder - if the format for podcasting was designed from the start to support important commercial metrics like audience size, based on the understanding that everything successful is monetized, perhaps the Audibles of the world would be happily using the open format right now rather than a proprietary one, and we’d be in a much better spot. Plus startups would be able to get in on the action - at the moment the only folks that can effectively monetize podcasts are the big guys with their more-easily commericalized formats (or little guys that become dependent on the bigger ones.) The MP3 format’s utter unworkability only helps shut smaller entrepreneurs out - while not doing much to hinder larger companies.
[Twelve Black Code Monkeys] Video Ipod: I'm sure part of this was also to prevent those who have big libraries of video in more popular formats (read "DVIX"), that they've either converted themselves or gotten illicitly off Grokster or BitTorrent, from easily playing them on the new devices, thus getting Apple slammed by big media companies as being too friendly towards file sharers. The result is that you can still do this, but it just takes more work: if you have a bunch of DVIX-encoded video files, you just have to convert them yet again to H.264 or MPEG4.

[Fplanque.net] fplanque: IT world - Post details: Podcasting in Windows Media ...: If I was Microsoft (yeah, right ) I’d definitely add all podcasting features you can find in iTunes and I’d add this little extra: BitTorrent distribution! (Or any other P2P distribution method if I had a political/licensing problem with BitTorrent…)
[Digitalmusic.weblogsinc.com] Bit Torrent Client Review - The Digital Music Weblog ...: Grauw’s Web Spot has posted a review of 11 Bit Torrent clients. Obviously not a comprehensive overview, it’s still a healthy roundup and there aren’t enough of those.
