BBS: The Documentary

[http://greylodge.org/gpc] BBS: The Documentary Directed By Jason Scott bbsdocumentary.com: Long before the Internet escaped from the lab, connected the planet and redefined what it meant to use a computer there was a brave and pioneering band of computer users who spent their time, money and sanity setting up their home computers and phone lines to welcome anyone who called. By using a modem, anyone else who knew the phone number of these computers could connect to them, leave messages, send and recieve files”¦.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

[American Mohawk] The Neuroscience of Christopher St. By Christophe...: My BBS became Sensenet My handle was Flatline Suddenly dragons and outer space Turned into Coding... Extinguisher Foam. Scott is around We play chess and order pizzas While he learns to operate... visiting Scott at Jamie’s in a Shortsville bar This is shotgun wedding town And she is legally blind

[The Desert Tusk] Sacrificing Israel, Pt. 2: Unfortunately, they forgot to tell the man who is perhaps Kerry's top foreign policy adviser and surrogate, Richard Holbrooke. Appearing on The O'Reilly Factor Friday night, Holbrooke warned of a possible "Iran-type clerical dictatorship" in Iraq: This would be "very dangerous for Israel, the U.S. and the world." Then Holbrooke segued into an account of how Kerry would improve the situation in the Middle East: "He [Kerry] has said already he would start intense talks with the allies .and he would reach out to the moderate Arab states.

[Ascii.textfiles.com] ASCII by Jason Scott: Comment on Why the BBS Documentary is ...: Jason, as a child of the BBS era I was already interested in this, but you choosing to give up some of your rights for the sake of sticking to your beliefs just...rocks. :) If I can get the money together you just sold a copy!

[Grandtextauto.gatech.edu] Grand Text Auto » Documenting the Boards: The documentary is offered under a Creative Commons license. Given the nature of the project, the amount of the video, and the nice packaging job that was done on the DVDs, I’d suggest that interested parties lay out the bucks, as I did, and order the BBS documentary. Before you ask: no, I’m not saying this just because Jason says he’s going to put me in his next movie, or only because my nostalgia for the mid-1980 and my personal experiences as a “modem user” has been awakened, although those are certainly decent reasons to pimp a project.
